Operating Philosophy

PAX sapiens’ operating work includes convening, thought leadership, and the development of novel research or information to help drive our strategic vision.

PAX sapiens’ convening strategy is based on the network coordination model used by the sister foundation One Earth Future.  Our approach is rooted in the following basic principles:

  • The convening should be able to identify a shared goal narrow enough for all participants to commit to it. The scope should be developed iteratively and with buy-in from participants.

  • The convening should allow for differing institutional approaches, languages, and incentives.  It should not expect participants to all sign up to a universally shared strategy or approach.

  • Networks rather than hierarchies: The plan for followup to individual convenings should be based on using information to maximize participant flexibility to make their own decisions.  It should not be based on a formal and enforceable shared plan.
